226ers - HIGH FRUCTOSE GEL 6-PACK is an energy gel containing an advanced carbohydrate matrix in a 1:0.8 ratio, consisting of maltodextrin and fructose. This carbohydrate matrix provides 55g of carbohydrates per gel and 250mg of sodium. High fructose energy gels are also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
The advanced carbohydrate matrix 1:0.8 is based on two different carbohydrate sources, which are absorbed by two different transporters, allowing higher carbohydrate absorption. The rate of absorption and oxidation of exogenous carbohydrates is 60 g per hour, with only glucose/maltodextrin ingested. The combination of two different carbohydrate sources such as glucose/maltodextrin and fructose provides an additional 30 g of carbohydrates. This means you can consume at least 90g of carbohydrates per hour without stomach or digestive problems.
Maltodextrin is absorbed in the small intestine by the SLG-1 transporter and converted into glucose. Maltodextrin has a high glycemic index, which leads to a rapid increase in blood glucose levels and a rapid release of energy. Due to its high molecular weight and low osmolarity, it allows for rapid gastric emptying, thereby not putting a strain on digestion.
Fructose is absorbed in the small intestine using GLUT5 transporters. Fructose is then absorbed and travels from the intestine to the liver via GLUT2 transporters and glycogen storage in the liver. Fructose is absorbed more slowly than maltodextrin, providing a gradual and consistent release of energy. Therefore, the combination of maltodextrin and fructose allows the digestion and absorption of a large amount of carbohydrates, reducing the risk of stomach problems.
Use 1–2 gels per hour of exercise, depending on the duration and intensity of the activity and in combination with other carbohydrate-rich products. Due to the high concentration of carbohydrates (sugars) and sodium, it is recommended to always consume gels with water to ensure good absorption and minimize the risk of gastrointestinal discomfort.
